Curvy Girl Fashion - Black eShakti Dress with Purple

Sorry for the little break in fashion blog posts...I haven't been feeling very inspired lately as we've gotten a 2nd winter where I live and those winter blues returned along with it. I ordered a dress from eShakti about two weeks ago (that I paid for myself) and its arrival yesterday was a perfect opportunity to get back into the swing of things! Today was also a day to wear purple for Epilepsy awareness so I figured I would incorporate some purple into my outfit as well.

The dress is the "Simply Black Poplin Dress" from eShakti (same website that gave you my owl dress and the blue/yellow eyelet dress I wrote reviews on). I didn't customize this one except bring up the original length of the skirt. You can't really go wrong with a black dress and it is incredibly comfortable. It even has pockets!! Today I wore a little tank underneath to bring up the neckline to a more work appropriate level, a skinny leopard belt at the waist, my tan riding boots from Steve Madden, a lilac button up cardigan from Reitmans, and a plum purple scarf for a little more neckline coverage (and some more purple!). I was iffy about a light purple cardigan with a dark purple scarf but I love how it turned out!! For jewelry, I just wore some bow earrings from Forever 21 and my Guess watch! And lets not forget that cute little owl iPhone case that I got from eBay today! :)

This is one of the many ways I will style this dress casually but it is also something you can dress up with the right accessories. You will likely be seeing this dress a lot on future blog posts - both casual and dressy! If you would like to see a review on this dress please let me know :)

Review - Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow in "Bad To The Bronze"

Just wrote this review on Makeup Alley and thought I'd share it on my blog because its been a while since I've posted. I haven't been feeling very fashion inspired lately and I've been busy - I'll most more soon because its starting to get warmer here and spring outfits are calling my name! :)

I bought this solely because of the hype on YouTube and wasn't expecting myself to love it it this much. I usually don't do cream eyeshadows just because I have such oily and somewhat hooded lids - even high end products with a primer will crease on me so I didn't have high hopes. I picked this up numerous times at the drugstore and put it back on the shelf again because I just didn't think it would work for me.

When I opened this up, I noticed its more of a taupe colour (kinda reminds me of MACs Satin Taupe) than bronze but I still loved the colour. Its nice and creamy and goes on very smooth. I put it on my lid with a somewhat fluffy eyeshadow brush or pack it on with a flat shader - both look amazing and its very a very buildable product. For day time, I just finish this off with a light brown as a transition shade and a medium brown in my crease but it can also be smoked out for a night time look as well with a dark brown or black.

The staying power of this product is what absolutely blew me away. My eyelids are super oily and even with a primer most products will crease & fade. I wore LORAC eye primer under this eyeshadow on one eye, and without a primer on the other. After about 10 hours of wear (including a nap!) this eyeshadow still looks amazing on both eyes!!! The eye without the primer is slightly starting to move but I can only notice because I looked closely in my lighted makeup mirror. So with or with a primer this stuff lasts!

I got it for under $10 which is great for such an amazing product and its easily obtainable at any drugstore. There's lots in the jar so I expect it to last me quite a long time. This product is a lazy gals best friend - you can just put this on your lid, blend out the edges, put on some mascara and run out the door still looking like you spent time on your makeup. Anyone has got to love that! When I run out, I will definitely repurchase this and I plan to go back and get a few more colours of this product to try out. Every girl needs to have this in their makeup bag or collection!

Curvy Girl Fashion - Forever 21 Lipstick Dress

I know its not Friday yet but the dress I wore today deserves a mid week blog post! I actually purchased a white summer dress with lipsticks on it back in January from Forever 21+ but haven't worn it because its still kinda cold where I live. When I saw a black one on the website I had to get it too because well...I needed two lipstick dresses, right? This one is more for spring with 3/4 length sleeves, v neck (with built in slip for extra chest coverage) with a wrap dress style. Its made of 94% polyester and 6% spandex so its really comfortable, flattering, and work appropriate! My only complaint is the slip is made of polyester also so I find the dress slides around a little bit as I move throughout the day. Now don't worry...I think wearing this to a makeup gig would be really silly so I don't plan to make this dress my makeup artist uniform haha. But I think its great every day dress for someone who adores lipstick and cosmetics in general :)

Today I wore the dress with red flats from Payless and some nude stockings.

My other lipstick dress will be blogged about as soon as it gets warm enough to wear it so keep an eye out :). If you would like to buy this dress, its still on the website here!

Review - CoverGirl Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation

I just wrote a review on MakeupAlley for CoverGirl's Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation and thought I'd share it on my blog for my readers. I seem to only blog about beauty products I love so here's a review on a product I wasn't overly fond of. This product has been receiving excellent reviews in the beauty community lately so I thought I'd put my holy grail foundations (Revlon ColourStay & Rimmel 25 Hour Lasting Finish Foundation) aside and give it a try. I gave it a 3 out of 5 lipsticks...the pump really increased its rating for me! Here's the review:
I haven't purchased a CoverGirl product since I was a teenager but this one had such high reviews I figured I'd give it a shot. I honestly have to say I gave this product 2 months to see if I'd fall in love with it some day but no such luck.

The formula is too runny for my liking and the coverage isn't great. When I tried to layer it for a little more coverage, my face I was a cakey mess. The staying power isn't great either and didn't last me all day (like my Revlon Colourstay and Revlon 25 hour does) - when I wiped it off at night there is barely anything to wipe off. I was also very oily halfway through the day especially on my forehead. I am not sure why but I don't find that Stay Fabulous is a great base for blush and bronzer....every product I put on my cheeks (even pink blush) looks orange! And the worst thing about this product...oxidizing! It looks ok when I first apply it but just give it less than an hour and my face looks orange even with no bronzer. I pump this on my hand when applying and sometimes I forget to wipe it off leaving my hand in an orange mess too! I know this doesn't happen to everyone and a recommended fix is to get a lighter shade but I am already the lightest shade there is so I can't purchase anything lighter. The 3 in 1 doesn't really win me over either - I find better results using a separate primer (I don't mind the extra step) and I don't find the coverage good enough for concealer. I always use a concealer for blemishes and dark under eye circles so I'm not really saving any steps by using this foundation.

There are a few good things which is why I gave it 3 lipsticks (and I think I'm being pretty generous). It does blend pretty well with fingers, sponge and flat top brush. Another great thing is the bottle with the pump - makes application a breeze and it keeps me from wasting the product (I know I only need 1 pump for my whole face). Its pretty cheap at under $10 CAN per bottle!

Overall, I was disappointed with this product. I really wanted to love it but unfortunately I don't. I'll try to use this up (because I hate wasting foundation) but I will be sticking with my holy grail foundations and will not be repurchasing this product. Sorry CoverGirl!

Thanks for reading. If you were thinking about purchasing this product because of the reviews, I hope the information I gave you will help you make a decision. The extreme oxidizing really made me dislike this product the most - nobody wants to look like they just rolled around in a bag of Doritos :)

Curvy Girl Fashion - Nautical

Its Friday again!! Today my outfit was something you would typically see on Pinterest (you know, those ones that don't have a model, its just clothes laid out for you to make an outfit?) but I totally love it! I've been looking for a nautical shirt for quite some time and couldn't pass up the price tag on this one. This was on the sale rack at The Gap for $23.99 (Regular $34.50)...when I took it to the counter to pay for it the lady told me it was $12.99! I could have reached over the counter and hugged her!!

The top is white with 3/4 length sleeves, red stripes and a navy ruffled anchor sewn on the front. Its kind of loose fitting so I gathered it up at the back for a more fitted look. I just paired my red skinny jeans from Bluenotes and a pair of Navy Blue TOMS. I plan to get at least another pair of TOMS for this Spring/Summer season (these are from last summer) because I absolutely love them!

The snow is melting and temperature is getting a little warmer here were I live so this week I've decided its time to ditch the socks, long pants and knits and break out the spring stuff! And you know what? It seems as though my "winter blues" are slowly starting to fade away!! There's going to be a lot more dresses and skirts here on my blog so get ready! I hope I don't jinx the weather :)

Before I go I have some big news. When I logged in to write this blog I found out that I've hit over 15,000 blog views!! Thank you to each and every one of you for visiting my blog and reading what I have to say. I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart <3

Review - eShakti "Floral eyelet fit-and-flare dress"

The lovely ladies at eShakti were kind enough to offer me yet another sample dress to review for all my wonderful blog readers. This one is a beauty!!! With the spring season right around the corner, eShakti now has their spring line up on their website. I narrowed it down after an hour or so to the Floral Eyelet Fit & Flare Dress. This dress had a very similar shape to my owl dress so I decided to use their customize styling option to change it up and turn it into a cute, fun party dress!! The dress originally had a scoop neckline but I changed it to a boat neckline instead. I also shortened the length to above the knee for a flirty style. I had to choose 3 dresses and I didn't know which one I was receiving until it arrived. So when I opened the box I was so excited to see my first choice. I'm very pleased with my modifications and I absolutely LOVE this dress! Its exactly what I pictured :)

This dress features a beautiful sheer blue eyelet overlay with a floral design. But here's what makes the dress unique - the underlay is a bright yellow taffeta material so it shows through the eyelets and gives kind of a two toned bluish green effect. There's a navy blue band around the waist that is flat in the front but a stretchy material in the back for a little bit of room and comfort (called "Elastic Smocked Back Waist" on the website). The construction of this dress is very high quality and the seams are sewn together very well everywhere! And this dress has my two favorite qualities of the owl dress - pockets, and the underside of the shoulder straps has little loops that snap so you can snap your bra straps in place. The back features a keyhole design for some added character.

I ordered a 1X (same size as last time) and it fits like a glove. The waist band   makes it extra flattering and the length is short but remains appropriate for both size and age. For the pictures, I paired it with a pair of black open toe pumps (thanks Catherine!), but I also tried it on with a pair of nude heels and they looked great with it as well. This dress easily just slips on over your head but also has a partial zipper side closure

Of course...there's pictures! I really wanted to photograph this dress outside but it was cold, rainy and windy all weekend and I wanted to post my review as soon as possible. The melting messy snow wouldn't make for nice photos anyway so I settled for my regular hallway shot!

The back keyhole detailing with the Elastic Smocked Back Waist

The dress is so flowly - I had to do a few twirls in it :)

This dress was "Temporarily Out of Stock" on the website but it just became available again! You can get it for 20% off until March 20th, 2013 using the promo code: PRLPNKBETY. The price of the Floral Eyelet Fit & Flare Dress is $119.95 but when you think about it, that's a great price for a beautiful dress that you can customize yourself. Not many online dress websites give you that option!! In addition, you are receiving a very high quality, well made dress so its well worth the investment!

A HUGE thank you goes out to eShakti for sending me this dress to review...especially Jane and Jennifer. The first party or event that comes up in the near future, I'll be sure to wear this! I am always pleased with the ordering process, the company, the speedy shipping, and their customer service. I highly recommend ordering from eShakti!

I was given the dress but not paid in addition to say nice things about the company. I am 100% honest and truly happy with my experience. If you are reading this blog post from a google search, thanks for checking me out! Please subscribe for more fashion, makeup, nails and reviews. If you any questions, please comment below or email me at apinkmua at gmail.com and I would be happy to help you out as best I can.

Thanks for reading!

Curvy Girl Fashion - Mint Jeans & Leopard Print

Today's outfit is a bit sloppy - the weather here is rainy, cold, and grey and I was feeling really tired this morning so I didn't feel like putting much effort into it. My co-worker (Hi Norma!!) told me the outfit was "blog worthy" so I figured I'd show you guys anyway :)

I just wore a pair of mint green jeggings from Bluenotes, a white v neck t-shirt, leopard cardigan from Old Navy, and black wide calf boots from Payless. Now before you say "ew...jeggings" - hear me out! I know jeggings are somewhat of a young girl clothing item but I find them great! They are stretchy, forgiving, versatile, curve hugging and these just slip on like regular leggings so they are really comfortable! I also have a hot pink pair that I'm sure you will see in a future blog post :)

I was so comfortable all day...I even took a nap in this outfit when I got home from work (minus the boots, of course). Gotta love that! :)

One more thing before I go and this is exciting! I had a lovely package delivered to my door this evening from eShakti. They contacted me 2 weeks ago to receive a dress from their Spring line to review for my blog. Of course, I agreed and I was so lucky to receive one of the most amazing dresses on that website right now! I'm blogging about it over the weekend so stay tuned. If you REALLY like the dress (or any other dress on the website), you can get 20% off until March 10th, 2013 with the promo code PRLPNKBETY.

Thanks for reading! And thank you everyone for all the support you've shown me since I started fashion blogging. You guys really keep me motivated and inspired and I appreciate it to no end!

Much Love,
