Curvy Girl Fashion - Old Clothes, New Outfits #2

Happy Friday!!

Continuing on with my new project of making outfits from clothes already in my closet, I put together something this morning that I really liked and figured it was blog worthy. I took a pair of pink skinny jeans from Bluenotes and paired it with a black and white striped top from Forever 21+, a leopard print scarf from eBay, and a pair of black "Baretraps" wide leg boots from Shoe Company. I wore this shirt and scarf combo before (I LOVE stripes and leopard print together) but with a pair of regular blue jeans and beige boots. The pink bottoms tucked into a pair of black boots gave the outfit a completely different but fun vibe!

For comparison, here's the shirt and scarf combo with regular blue jeans...

See the difference? Isn't it amazing? This is a super fun project and I'm really enjoying it so far! You should give it a try! See you next time :)

Curvy Girl Fashion - Old Clothes, New Outfits! + Update's been almost two months! I've been super busy with my day job and a lot of amazing makeup gigs - I'll get to that in a minute! The main reason for my lack of blogs is I've been on a self-imposed clothes shopping ban (I know, can you believe it?) and I have been just sticking my money in a savings account instead. I just have so much clothes in my closet - some I've only worn once!

So, I've been taking items from my large selection of clothes and making new outfits - something I could have been doing all along, I know. Fall is my favorite season for clothes but late fall in Newfoundland is bitter cold so not only do I need to put together a great outfit, I also need it to be warm. I gave this old clothes new outfit thing a whirl for a few weeks and have really come up with some outfits that I'm super impressed with! I've decided to give my blog content a little spin and make outfits out of what I already have (and what I've already blogged about so you can see the items in a different outfit). Of course, I will be getting clothes for Christmas so they will make it into my blog as well.

My favorite outfit so far is turning summer dresses into fall outfits with tights, boots, scarves, and cardigans! I went to Joe Fresh and bought some coloured & printed tights to pair with all the dresses I have and make them wearable for the colder weather. Here's an outfit I put together while trying to fall asleep one night. I took this sleeveless printed floral dress from Walmart and paired it with black tights, a black cardigan and some tan booties.

I've recently treated myself to a new red strapless Christmas party dress from Forever 21+ that I plan to wear to a number of gatherings, dinners, shows, and parties I have scheduled for the holiday season. It was my reward for being so good and sticking to my shopping ban for 2 months! :)

So I guess I should just do a small update on what I've been up to lately before I clue up this blog post. I continued the wedding season right through the fall working my makeup artist job on the weekends. I had an amazing fall wedding season and met the most amazing brides & bridal parties. I'm so lucky!!

I was given the opportunity to work with a local film crew called Filigree Productions on a horror film where I even did some special effects makeup! Here's the beautiful and amazing actress Kim. Huge thanks to Steven Gosse and all the cast/crew for an amazing day!

In October, I went on a little girls weekend with my girlfriends to Bonavista. We stayed a beautiful home in Upper Amherst Cove and had an amazing weekend together. My cheeks and stomach hurt from laughing - I really needed that little getaway :). Here's a photo I took from my bedroom window before we went out for supper...

I clued up the wedding season with my last bride (and co worker), Heather at the beginning of November. I attended the wedding reception with my Bishop Feild family and we danced the night away. It was so fun! Here's a photo of me and the beautiful bride!

The following week, I did a mother/daughter makeup lesson in November with two lovely ladies from Deer Lake who were in St. John's for a visit. They were even so kind to write an email to thank me for teaching them so much! I can't tell you how amazing that feels :)

Most recently, I was makeup artist for Pur Minerals for makeover gala at Shoppers Drug Mart. It was my first time doing a makeup gig of that nature but it was super fun! As a makeup artist, it is truly an amazing feeling to genuinely rave about a product you actually love! I want to give a big shout out to Skye Tostowaryk who has been super sweet and amazingly generous to offer me these makeup gigs. I cannot thank you enough for all these fantastic opportunities! :)

So there you have it - I've been busy! And I have a busy month of December coming up with my own Christmas parties, gatherings, and shows. I also have makeup gigs booked for other people's Christmas parties & shows! My Christmas shopping is almost complete, our place is decorated for the holidays and I'm ready to take on the last of an absolutely amazing and successful year! I hope 2014 is just as amazing!

Thank you to all for being so loving and supportive as I explore a career in the makeup industry. I never thought it would go this far, but I'm sure glad it did :).

Curvy Girl Fashion - 90's grunge is back!!

So, I have mixed feelings that flannel plaid, distressed, combat boots, oversized everything, etc are back in style. I'm happy because that was my absolute favorite era - clothing, music, memories (I grew up as a teenager in the mid to late 90's so I really got to experience everything it had to offer). But at the same time I am a little sad that I'm actually old enough to see a trend go out and come back in again decades later. My friend Kathy texted me from Montreal over the summer and showed me a picture of a store display she saw. Everything was plaid flannel, huge, and distressed. I was so excited and hoped that the trend would make its way here (newfoundland is a little slow with the trends, I find). I'm finally starting to see the stores here follow the trend but I'm not sure if it will catch on or not. Either way, I plan to rock the 90's trend for my more casual days and weekends. I know this is not for everyone but I'm loving it!

I put this outfit together for Friday but I have some more 90's inspired outfits to come throughout the fall. The plaid flannel shirt came from Forever 21+, the jeans are boyfriend jeans from Old Navy (These are "skinny" and I'm not loving the shape - I'll keep looking for something straighter from the hip and a little more distressed), the faux leather moto jacket is from Reitmans (I know, right? They are totally moving up in the world), and the boots are Madden Girl (purchased at Shoe Company). Even though Kings of Leon are not 90's, the short skinny jeans with the boots kinda gives the outfit a little Kings of Leon rock feel at the same time.

Hope you like it!

Curvy Girl Fashion - Owl Casual Friday

Ok, I owl obsession is getting a little out of hand. Everything I see, I want to buy!! I bought this top the same day I purchased my owl sweatshirt - one of my co-workers told me she saw an owl top at Winners that week. I just popped in to see if I could find it and it was there and I loved it (and it was only $19.99)! Its long so its great with leggings and the owl is kind of crocheted onto the shirt. It's a little big but that's the way a lot of tops seem to be lately so its perfectly fine.

Friday, I wore it with a pair of red leggings from Urban Planet and my "Bare Traps" boots from The Shoe Company (I don't know if I mentioned this last week but these are wide calf). This outfit is super casual, comfy and perfect for fall!

I'm working on an outfit that I'm SUPER excited to share on my blog. It's not for everyone but it certainly gives me nostalgia. I almost have everything so hopefully it will be on next Friday's blog!!

Curvy Girl Fashion - 4 Days Of Work Outfits!!!

So to make up for my laziness this past summer, I decided to do 4 outfits for this week's blog post! I would have done a full work week but one of the days I wore a dress you have already seen (the 3/4 length sleeve lipstick dress from Forever 21+).  So this is 3 work outfits and a casual Friday outfit!

For the first outfit, I paired a ribbed sleeveless black peplum top from Forever 21+ (which was a gift...thank you!), and a pair of burgundy cropped dress pants from Reitmans. The necklace is also from Reitmans which was a perfect addition to this outfit to give it some character. For work I almost always wear flats because its an old building with a lot of stairs and slippery floor. You may think a secretary sits down all day but honestly I'm running around all day so flats are the safest footwear all around!

The second outfit is a rose print tank top from Bootlegger with a grey skirt and black cardigan - both from Reitmans. Same black flats as the last outfit!

The third outfit is a black stretch cotton dress from Forever 21+, owl printed scarf from Old Navy, and riding boots from Steve Madden. I love this outfit!

And finally...casual Friday!!  My friend Kathy posted this sweater on my Facebook wall and I just had to get it. It is sorta like a sweatshirt but super thin and really soft!! The owl is pink sequins which is a little young but I still love it! It looks great with jeans but with a long tank underneath, it can also go with some leggings! The sweater is from Ricki's, jeans are from Old Navy, and the boots are wide calf "Bare Trap" boots from The Shoe Company.

Which one is your favorite? Comment below and let me know :)

As always, thanks for reading!

Curvy Girl Fashion - Weekly Work Outfits

Ok, I'm getting back into the swing of things I just need to get on a weekly routine again with these blog posts! Work has been super busy but I'm slowly catching up. One of these outfits is what I wore on the first day of school, and two outfits are what I wore to work this week (one dressy and one casual).

This one is my first day of school outfit. If you are a teacher, or any type of school staff you have to admit - picking out that first day of school outfit is still fun! And if you don't, you're lying :). This year I wore grey dress pants from Reitmans, an owl printed blouse from Ricki's, and a black 3/4 length sleeve cardigan from Reitmans. These dress pants are so comfortable! I got them in petite so they are the perfect length to wear with flats (there are a lot of stairs and slippery floors at work so I usually pass on the heels). They don't have a button/zipper fly - instead they just pull on so they are great for those days you feel like you ate just a few too many carbs. They are basically yoga pants made out of dress pants material so how can you go wrong? The owl blouse, well - I had to. Its a cream coloured top with a overall print of two cute little owls. I wore the cardigan for a little more coverage as the owl top is sleeveless. The red shoes are just little flats from Payless!

The next outfit I didn't realize looked very much like one from my previous blog post. Last time I wore the polka dot top, green cropped pants, and black cardigan. This time I wore that same polka dot top from Forever 21+, black ankle pants from Reitmans, and a green cardigan from Reitmans for a little pop of colour. I didn't realize the similarity until after I posted this outfit on my Instagram and saw my previous outfit from a couple of weeks ago. I just wore plain black flats with this outfit.

And finally, a casual outfit. On Friday's I usually pick out something a little more laid back (not necessarily jeans) but still put together. Friday, I wore a taupe flowy sleeveless blouse from Forever 21+ (with a long black tank underneath), black leggings from Eclipse, and boots from Madden Girl. To top it all off, I wore a pink headband from Forever 21 for a little pop of colour :)

I still have so many outfit ideas I want to share on my blog! You guys still give such amazing positive feedback and you keep me motivated to keep this going. And it gives me an excuse to go shopping!!! Thank you everyone for all your love and support <3

Curvy Girl Fashion - Back to work outfits

I apologize for the lack of outfits lately. Being a school secretary and having all summer off makes me very lazy for fashion. I wear shorts, tank tops, sun dresses, maxi dresses, and flip flops or Toms all the time! I also didn't do a lot of clothing shopping over the summer so I didn't have many new things to share. I went back to work on Wednesday and started getting back into my outfit routine so I thought I would share my Thursday and Friday outfits (yes...two!) on my blog.

On Thursday, I wore apple green cropped jeans from Bluenotes, a polka dot tank top from Forever 21+, a black cardigan from Reitmans, and sandals from Payless (these were my favorite the summer when I dressed up). The first days of work at my job are running around and lifting things so I wanted to be comfortable but still put together.

Today my outfit was a bit out of my comfort zone. I love the galaxy leggings trend but wasn't sure if I could pull it off with my age and size. When I saw them on the Forever 21 site I figured I would just go for it (and they were only $7.80!!). When I tried them on I still wasn't sure but once I put them with an outfit I fell in love! And a few of my co workers were totally digging them (thank know who you are <3). I paired them with a black belted polyester tunic from Forever 21+ (I got it in the same order) and some black ankle boots. Again, put together yet comfy for running around trying to get all my work done before the students come back next week!

I am hoping that my blog routine will get back on track with the Fall coming up. Its already Fall here where I live - we went from summer to late November weather overnight. I love summer but I really enjoy the cooler weather, boots, fall clothing, pumpkin scented everything from Bath & Body Works, kids coming back to school all excited in their new clothes, school bag and lunchbag, and pumpkin spiced lattes are my favorite Starbucks drink! I have a few weddings (makeup) through the fall too which is pretty exciting.

I have so many new makeup & beauty products I fell in love with over the summer and I'm really hoping to catch up on my reviews and share some of my new holy grail items on my blog. Stay tuned for lots of exciting blog posts!

Photoshoot with Brian Carey & Ophelia + SUMMER PICS!

Hello! Its been over a month, I know - I apologize. This has been one busy summer but one of the best ones I've had in a long time!! Lots of socializing, our 3rd wedding anniversary, getting back into playing guitar, reading, relaxing, birthdays, celebrations, girls nights, sunbathing in the park, being an extra on the TV show "Republic of Doyle" (I'll be on Season 5 Episode 5 if you're wondering), weddings, consultations, and I was even Key Makeup/Hair Artist for a TV show called "Save My Pet" that's filmed here in Newfoundland! I'll post some pics of my summer at the end of this blog so you can see what I've been up to!

In July, I did a photoshoot with a local photographer and friend, Brian Carey. Our model, Ophelia, was absolutely stunning and I wanted to share the pictures here on my blog.

Please make sure you check out Brian's blog here: Thank you, Brian! As always, it was lovely working with you!

Here's what I've been up to this summer in picture form!!

This is me heading to set for "Save My Pet". I had so much fun, everyone was so wonderful and I learned so much!

This was hair I did for Renee for the interview segment of the TV show. She had gorgeous ombre hair so I had to curl it! This pic was taken before I finger combed out the curls and loosened them up a little bit!

Summer started out great with a year end party with my co-workers. This is me and Sarah on the Sundance Deck

On August 4th, I got to see one of my favorite bands of all time since I was a small kid, KISS! Of course, I had to do some Gene Simmons makeup for the occasion. We had an amazing time and it was everything I imagined it would be and more!! Our seats were INSANE...thank you Uncle Ken for getting us tickets :)

(Look to the right of Tommy's knee - you will see me with my Gene makeup and my husband standing next to me. That's how close we were!)

If you saw Hey Rosetta at the George Street Festival, you would have seen Kinley on the violin rocking makeup by me. Doesn't she look fabulous!? :)

I went to the regatta with my BFF Kathy last week! We helped out the ladies in the "I Loves The Regatta" T-shirt booth, ate some food, and hung out with friends! It was great :)

This pic was taken right before I headed to the Republic of Doyle set for the day in July. Met a lot of nice people and it was a great experience. Remember to watch out for me in Season 5 Episode 5 :)

I haven't been wearing a lot of outfits this summer so that's why there's been no blog posts. Most days I wear shorts and a tank top, or a dress that has already been featured so there hasn't been much to blog about. But Fall is coming up and that's my favorite season for clothing so expect a lot more fashion blogs soon. I even ordered from Forever 21 Sunday night to get a head start on some Fall outfits!

I hope your summer has been as amazing as mine! Thank you to all my amazing friends who have helped make this summer memorable! You are all the greatest and I am so lucky to have you in my life. I am so thankful for everything this summer has brought me so far and I don't think its possible for me to be happier :)

I'll see you in the next blog post!

Curvy Girl Fashion - Maxi Dress Part 2

Ok, ok - so I have a little bit of an obsession with maxi dresses! I've bought 2 since my last blog post and I really didn't want to wait to blog about this one. I got this dress at a store called Labels here in St. John's (seems to be a Canadian company from the website) and I got it for $20 (50% off the regular price)! I usually don't shop there because they didn't carry plus sizes but they had a rack of these dresses in different colours - all plus size! When I tried it on, I absolutely fell in love. My husband said the print looks like a beach chair but I love the colour combination - its so bright, fun and summery. Like a beach chair, I guess :). And the best part? It's the PERFECT length for me! So I finally found what I was looking for - a maxi dress for a plus size short gal!

Today I just wore it with my Havianas flip flops and a sock bun because its been really hot here the last couple of days! Finally...summer weather!! :D

I hope everyone is having as great of a summer as I've been having! See you in the next blog!

Curvy Girl Fashion - Maxi Dress

Sorry I've been MIA has been a busy couple of weeks cluing up the school year at work and lots of socials! I was absolutely spoiled with cards, flowers, hugs, chocolate, and beautiful thoughtful gifts from the very sweet students & staff at my school as a token of their appreciation for all I do. I'm a very lucky girl and I love them all dearly!

Before I get into today's outfit...I want to mention that this is blog post #100 and I've hit over 20,000 views!! As always, I am so thankful for all your love and support....thank you so much!

I know I'm a little late getting into this trend but I was positive my short curvy figure would never look good in a maxi dress. I am 5'4 and I haven't come across a place that sells maxi dresses for petite people (if you know if one please let me know) so I just didn't bother with them. Yesterday, I was at the mall with my husband and they were everywhere. I decided to give the maxi dresses a try and confirm they are just not for me. Boy was I wrong - I tried on so many and fell in love with so many I had a hard time trying to decide on one. I couldn't believe how tall I looked! I must admit, a lot of them were definitely too long for me but I found one particular dress that had an elastic waist and could easily be hiked up to the right length with no tailoring required. But just my luck, it wasn't there in my size. So I went to the other mall in my city that has that same store and there it was - same dress and in my size. Meant to be!! I tried it on and instantly fell in love!!

So this is my chevron pink and grey maxi dress that I picked up at Bootlegger (hi to the girl who sold me this dress...I didn't catch your name but you were an absolute sweetheart!! We connected over nail polish and pandora charms. I casually mentioned my blog and she said she was going to come have a look!).  Anywho, the elastic waste on this dress makes it easy to just hike up and fold over to make it the perfect length for my short little legs! A good trick to do this on dresses with no elastic waist is to belt the dress and fold it over the belt. This dress has a deep scoop neck and back, and thick shoulder straps (great for covering your bra straps). Its made out of a very comfortable, soft, stretchy cotton material that is light and breezy for day or night.

Today I just paired it with a pair of pewter sandals from Payless (on my toes is Essie "Tart Deco") and an owl necklace that my co-worker Michelle gave me (Hi Michelle...thank you!). I also have on my Pandora bracelet which I'm going to do an update on soon, and my Guess watch. You may also notice that I recently dyed my hair red with amazing hair stylist, Maria! I never stray from my usual brown but I wanted to try something different and I love it!

I love maxi dresses because they are great for summer but you can also wear them throughout fall and winter with leggings/tights, a knit cardigan, and boots. I hope to expand my maxi dress collection a lot over the next couple of months and plan to wear them all year round (at least while they are still in style). Thanks for reading and see you guys again very soon! <3

Mini Fashionista - Introducing Ella

I have something a little different for today's blog post (I will post my weekly outfit tomorrow). This evening while I was out with my husband, my best friend Selena texted me a picture of her daughter (and my godchild) all dressed up in a super cute outfit that was totally worth writing a blog post about.

This is my god child, Ella. She's 6 years old (almost 7) and she lives in Ontario Canada. Isn't she beautiful?! Ella and I live thousands of miles apart but as she grows up and the stories I hear from her mom, I often wonder if she is somehow my child - she likes fashion, makeup, nail polish, pink, etc. As you can see, she's very tall and thin and her mom finds it difficult to find clothes to fit her body type. Maybe this blog post could help and/or inspire moms out there who find the same thing with their daughters - or maybe this is just an opportunity to brag about how cute my godchild is. Either's my little fashionista! I was given permission by her mom to post her picture on my blog in case anyone is wondering :)

She's wearing a ruffled pink top from Justice, a black sequinned skirt from The Children's Place, leggings from H&M, a black shrug (mom tells me its from another dress she owns that came from Costco), and her Hello Kitty Socks & Monster High Ballet Flats are from Walmart. Every time I scroll up and see this picture my heart bursts with love. She's just the best!

I hope you liked this little twist in blog content. Keep an eye out tomorrow for the outfit I wore today. If you wanna see more of these let me know! :)

Much Love!

Review: CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara

I have been using a new mascara for over a month now - I wanted to make sure I used it long enough to give it a good honest review. Since its a makeup product that almost everyone uses, I figured it would make a great blog post! Here is my Makeup Alley review with picture of my lashes before, and my lashes after. I give it a 4 out of 5!

I'm a mascara junkie and I'm always on the hunt for a drugstore product that will make my eyelashes look great (I don't buy high end mascaras). But I almost always fail and return back to my trusty old L'Oreal (Telescopic, Voluminous, Million Lashes, etc). Something told me that I would like this mascara so I decided to give it a go and it turns out its now one of my favorites.

I have sort of short straight lashes - they absolutely need to be curled and I always choose the waterproof forumula because it hold curl the best. This mascara separates my lashes beautifully one by one with NO clumping. Its very buildable and versitile - 1 coat gives you every day lashes, 2 coats gives you a little more drama, and 3 coats gives you gorgeous unclumped voluminous long looking lashes that don't look like spider legs. I would even dare to say this mascara makes my lashes look like false lashes (unlike those other mascaras out there that claim to but don't even come close. And the models in the commercials are wearing false lashes). Clump Crusher lasts all day long with very minimal flaking, and is easy to remove with a makeup wipe. It gives my eyes so much definition that I often just skip liner and eyeshadow and wear it alone.

I gave it a 4 because I don't like the size of the wand. My lashes aren't very thick and I find that when I apply this mascara the wand is so large that I get product on my upper eyelid at the base of my lashes (not so nice on days I don't wear eyeliner and wear light eye shadow). I also find its not as waterproof as my trusty L'Oreal. When I laugh my eyes water and this mascara transfers very easily onto the lower part of my eye. But that's not a huge deal breaker for me, I just need to clean it up a little bit when I have those issues. I will definitely repurchase this mascara and highly recommend it!

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Curvy Girl Fashion - Forever 21+ Peach Lace Dress

This blog is going to be short and sweet as I am not feeling well and heading to bed early tonight to get some rest. You may remember this dress in a winter outfit back in February paired with a denim jacket, tights, and riding boots. Now its Spring (almost summer!!) and today I wore it alone with no jacket, no tights, and some short tan boots to show a little bit of leg! This dress is so versatile - you can dress it up with some heels for a flirty and romantic vibe, or throw on some short boots like I did here and it kinda gives it a little bit of edge. It would also look great with some cute sandals or flats for the summer time. Every time I wear this dress I always get tons of compliments - today a little grade 2 told me my dress was beautiful :)

The dress is from Forever 21+ and the boots are from Payless.

See...short and sweet just like I promised. You should follow me on Instagram to see outfits that don't make the blog - my username is aprilpink. See you in the next blog (or on Instagram)!

Curvy Girl Fashion - Chambray with Maxi Skirt

I know you've seen this chambray shirt on my blog already (and probably Twitter, Facebook and Instagram too) but its one of my favorite Friday/weekend pieces and I just love it! I usually wear it with leggings or skinny denim jeans but now I want to show you how I wear it with a black maxi skirt. Its still a casual look but I think the maxi skirt slightly dresses it up a little bit. I like how it makes me look a little bit taller - and who said short people can't wear maxi skirts & dresses? I think they look great on everyone! If you are short and buy one that's too long, just simply bring it to a seamstress to hike it up to the right length for your height!

The skirt is from Old Navy (it has a drawstring waist, stretchy, and made of legging material so its really comfortable), the chambray shirt is from Forever 21 Plus, and the white tank underneath is from Old Navy as well. Since this was yesterday's work outfit, for shoes I am wearing a pair of blue floral open toe flats from Payless (I just love Payless for their cheap cute flats!!). For jewelry I have a pair of owl earrings my Nan gave me (can't see them here but they are cute), my Guess watch, and of course, my Pandora bracelet (with no new charm additions this time).

Sorry for the grainy, dark picture again - my husband wasn't around to take a pic for me. I'm going to try to get more outdoors non-mirror pictures of my outfits since there's no ugly snow on the ground and its warmer!

Thanks for reading. See you in the next blog :)

Curvy Girl Fashion - Night Time Look

Last night my school had a wine tasting fundraiser and I wanted to share the outfit I put together! Sorry for the not so great quality - this was taken after I got home so its in my dark hallway and sort of grainy.

You might remember this skirt from my very first Curvy Girl Fashion blog post paired with a chunky knit sweater and some boots. This is what I love about these can wear them casually or totally dress them up which is what I did last night. The skirt is the pink bandage skirt from Forever 21+, the white woven scoop tank is from Forever 21+ (I wore a white tank top from Old Navy for some extra coverage underneath because its really sheer), and some really high black peep toe sling back wedges from Payless. For jewlery went with a black and silver theme: zebra teardrop earrings from Forever 21, my pandora bracelet, my black Guess watch and a geometric black, white and silver necklace from Reitmans. I curled my hair and wore a really dark smokey eye with nude lips. I don't go out to something fancy very often so I really wanted to blog about this outfit. I hope you like it :)

I got around in these wedges (including a lot of dancing) for about 4-5 hours - my feet were sore last night but today my knees and legs are killing me! The price we pay for fashion, hey? I tumbled a few times because I'm not used to being so tall and so far away from the ground :D (and it wasn't the wine either). Since my injury last year, I find that high heels aggravate the bone I broke so I've been buying and wearing more wedges.

And before I end this blog I just wanted to share the new additions to my Pandora bracelet. I purchased a couple of cheap charms from a kiosk in the mall (the pink cupcake and the drink) to fill it up a bit. I also went back to the store where my husband got my bracelet and got two "Lazy Daisy" clips and a music note charm (all Pandora). I'm going to stop buying for a while because it is quite an expensive thing to collect :)

See you in the next blog!

Curvy Girl Fashion - eShakti Owl Love Dress + Birthday Week + Makeup Area Redecorating

I've had this dress since December and you've seen it in my review blog but I haven't worn it - it has just been too cold here for such a flowy dress and I needed to get the length hemmed. I finally brought it to a seamstress last month and got it hiked up to my knee and I'm even more in love with it now than I was when I got it!

Today, I decided to spruce up my Monday and style my Owl Love dress for work. I paired it with a white cardigan from Old Navy and my red flats from Payless. For jewelry I wore my Guess watch and my new Pandora bracelet my husband gave me for my birthday. The length is so much more flattering for my height (you can see what it looked like before here).

I turned 31 on Tuesday and it was the best birthday I ever had! The entire school where I work sang me happy birthday during the morning announcements (I cried a lot!!) and I got lots of homemade cards, hugs, birthday wishes, a candy bouquet, dinner, and lots of very thoughtful presents from my family and friends. I am such a lucky girl to have all these wonderful people in my life who make me so happy. Thank you so much to everyone!

Here is a little picture of my Pandora bracelet. My first charm was appropriately, an owl. I can't wait to start collecting more charms :)

And also this week I finally completed my makeup corner redecorating - I am so pleased with the results! This was the before....

And this is the after! I kept the mirror on the wall, and my chair. Hoping to find a leopard print rug for under my chair. And yes, that's a Jersey Shore calendar - its my guilty pleasure! :)

The storage drawer is from eBay, the desk is from Walmart, the director's chair is from Pier 1 Imports, the pink/green baskets are from Michaels, the tray behind makeup mirror is from Winners, makeup mirror is from Bed Bath and Beyond, and supplies to make brush holder are from Michaels! My everyday makeup is in the big drawer, and my eyeshadow palettes are in the little drawer to the right. Everything is sectioned off with mesh trays and organized very neatly!

Curvy Girl Fashion - Red Jeans & Anchor Chambray

Happy Friday everyone!! Its finally starting to feel like spring here where I live and the temperature is climbing after a very long, cold Winter. Last weekend I hit up Old Navy and came across this gorgeous chambray shirt with an anchor print on it. Even though I already had a chambray shirt sitting in my closet, I brought it to the dressing room to try on anyway. I couldn't believe how comfortable and soft it felt...and it had an anchor print which is something I've been obsessed with lately so I brought it right to the check out (along with a few other items). As you can tell, I don't have much willpower when it comes to saying no to shopping :)

Today I wore it with my red denim skinny jeans, a long white tank top, and my navy blue Toms. After I got home from work, my husband and I went to the park to fly a kite. We actually had a lot of fun and it was some great quality husband and wife time together! And it was a great opportunity to get a shot of my outfit instead of a selfie in my long mirror!!

Here's a close up of the print...isnt it amazing?

And here's a shot of our kite flying fun!

Curvy Girl Fashion - Leopard Print & Stripes

Today's outfit wasn't overly exciting. I kept it pretty low key and casual but I wanted to post it because of the top half combination. I saw a leopard print scarf paired with a black and white striped shirt on Pinterest and loved the concept! On my own I would never put this together - two bold prints in one outfit seemed like a fashion faux pas to me but its actually an amazing combo!

My shirt is from Forever 21+, jeans are just regular flared leg blue jeans from Bluenotes, the scarf is a cheapie from eBay (I paid like $5 with shipping for it), and I just wore some tan mid calf boots with my jeans down over them instead of tucked in. Accessories are my Guess watch and of course my new glasses! These were my 2nd (free) pair and it turns out people like them way more than my first pair!! My phone case is an anchor print case from Etsy!
