Santa Nails

Hope you're all having a lovely holiday! I didn't get to all the Christmas designs on had on my list so I am going to save them for next year and probably start a little earlier. The last of the Christmas Nail Art is Santa Faces (which is what I wore most of the week of Christmas). My dotting tool set arrived in the mail just before Christmas so I got to try them out with these nails.

First I painted all my nails with OPI "Samoan Sand" for his face and then painted a thick red line at my cuticle for his hat using OPI "Little Red Wagon". Next I made a white line at the tip of my nail for his beard, the same white for the fur on his hat and used a dotting tool to connect his beard to the hat for sideburns. For his face, I gave him a little pink nose, black & white nail polishes for his eyes and finished with a top coat (Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat...my favorite)!
My cuticles are messy but I really them! These chipped pretty easily because the white I used wasn't a good brand so I ended up taking them off and just using OPI "Little Red Wagon" under OPI "Gettin' Miss Piggy With It" for some festive red nails!

Stay tuned for some new years nails coming up in the next couple of days! :)

Rudolph Nails

This is one of the last Christmas designs for this year but its a goodie! Everyone loves Rudolph (it beats me why all of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names because I think he's pretty cool!).

I started with a blue (OPI "Teal The Cows Come Home") as a sky background for the base. Then I just filled in the head (OPI "Suzy Loves Cowboys") and made little ears with the nail polish brush. I made a larger dot with a white nail polish and a smaller dot on top with a black nail polish to make the eyes. Next I drew in the antlers with a black nail art pen and finished off with a dot of China Glaze "Ruby Pumps" for the nose!
Sorry for the quality again, I took this with my point and shoot because I didn't have my husband's camera around this week to take the photo.

Wishing you all a very happy holidays and a happy new year!! :)

Makeup - Hey Rosetta! Show

Your first question probably is "who is Hey Rosetta?" ...well, they're an amazing band from St. John's, Newfoundland (and also my friends! My husband was their drummer for a while too). If you've never heard of them and would like to check them out, please download their albums on iTunes and check out their website at http://www.heyrosetta.com

Anyway, every year they play Christmas shows here in the city and it is one of the most fun events on the year! I was lucky enough to do makeup for their  violinist, Kinley, for the Friday night show! She's one of the sweetest, most beautiful people I've ever met and it was a pleasure to do her makeup. Tis the season - I did a festive gold and green smokey eye and she totally rocked it!

Products Used:
  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • MAC "Goldmine" (on the lid)
  • MAC "Humid" (in the crease)
  • Urban Decay "Loaded" from the UD<3NY palette (to deepen the outer v)
  • MAC "Brule" (under the browbone)
  • MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
I forgot my camera so I only have an iPhone pic. Sorry for the not-so-good quality.

Isn't she gorgeous?! :D

Of course, I had to doll myself up for the show as wel,l so I'll fill you in on what makeup I was rocking Friday night! I went for a neutral eye with the outer v darkened out a little more than my every day usual, some long lashes, winged liner, deep pink cheeks and pink lips. I also curled my hair with my curling wand!

Products Used:
  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • MAC "Naked Lunch" (on the lid)
  • MAC "Brown Down" (in the crease)
  • MAC "Handwritten" (outer v)
  • MAC "Brule" (browbone)
  • MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
  • Ardele Lashes
  • NARS "Orgasm" (applied more heavily than usual)

Tonight I will work on my nail art design for my last few days of work before Christmas holidays :) ...so stay tuned!

Christmas Ornament Nails

Time for a break from glitter nail polishes and go back to some Christmas nail art. My next design is Christmas Ornaments. This is super easy...I just used the eraser part of a pencil for the balls (the red is China Glaze "Ruby Pumps" and the green is Rimmel "Camouflage"), a gold striper for the top, a white striper to make the ornaments look like they are shiny and OPI "She's Golden" as a base. I wasn't sure of them at first but they are pretty cute - even if I do say so myself ;)

I can't believe how fast Christmas is approaching. Soon I will have a nice relaxing 2 week break from work and Christmas at home with my family and in-laws.

Merry Christmas everyone! :)

Holiday Party Nails!

So I had my friends housewarming/birthday/Christmas party Saturday and you already saw what my makeup looked like - now to show you what nails I was sporting! I loved the festive green nails but I wanted something different and quick for the party. I ran to the drugstore to pick up something and there was 1 single bottle of OPI "Rainbow Connection" staring me right in the eye. I've been searching for this since the Muppets collection was released and it was always sold out. I had to buy it...and I did :).

I didn't have much time to do my nails so I just chose a black base (China Glaze "Liquid Leather") and put a thick coat of OPI "Rainbow Connection" on top. I absolutely LOVE this combination - its gorgeous!!

"Rainbow Connection" has to be one of my favorite OPI nail polishes and I highly recommend it! It is extremely difficult to get off with just regular nail polish remover and that's the only downfall in my opinion (but that's to be expected with glitter nail polishes). To remove it, I used a cotton pad soaked in pure acetone and sealed my fingertip with tin foil. Left it for about 5-10 minutes and it was gone instantly! Make sure to moisturize your cuticles and hands well after using pure acetone because it is very drying. I used a generous amount of a Gingerbread body butter from a local soap store :)

I will have another nail art blog post tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Festive Green Nails

So the holidays have finally caught up with me - I've been super busy with work, Christmas socializing, shopping, wrapping, planning, etc. After I wiped off my santa coat nails I didn't have time to do a design so I just did some festive green nails and I really like how they came out! I got just as many compliments on these as I do my nail art!

I put Rimmel 830 Camouflage (green) all over my nails (this polish only needs 1 coat - its fantastic!) then I put a thick coat of "Fresh Frog of Bel-Air" from the OPI Muppets Collection on top and voila - Festive Green Nails!

I will probably have another design this week sometime. Stay tuned :)

Santa's Coat Nails

Continuing with my Christmas theme...I wanted to do some Santa nails! I have to mention that the kids I work with are loving my designs. And lately while Christmas shopping, almost every cashier compliments my nails when I hand them my card. I really enjoy inspiring people to try some nail art on their own nails :)

I google "santa nails" for inspiration and saw some santa face designs but when I saw a design with his coat I had to recreate my own! There was a lot of different ways to do it but I always loved Santa's who had that coats with the thick white fur (instead of just the thin cheap looking ones) so I wanted to recreate that. I painted my nails with China Glaze "Ruby Pumps" for the red, used the brush of the nail polish OPI "She's Golden" to make the fur (just a stripe down the middle and a stripe across the tip). To give it a little kick I just put an iridescent nail polish and put it on top of the white to give it some sparkle. Next I used China Glaze "Liquid Leather" and the brush from that nail polish to make a black stripe for his belt. Finally I took a silver nail art polish and made a little box in the center for his belt buckle. Its super easy to do and I hope you'll try this one out for the holidays!!

Help-Portrait St. John's - December 3rd, 2011

Two posts in one day? That's a first for me! I just wanted to give a little more detail on the Help-Portrait St. John's that happened yesterday. I posted a blog a couple of days ago on what it is so please check that out for more information. I was the makeup artist to prep everyone for pictures and I was more than happy to participate but I don't think my heart was ready for all the love I felt that day :)

I got there around 9:40 and unpacked my train case. My husband made me some posters as well as business cards. This is what my table looked like:
I did makeup for about 12 people and every single person loved it! I even had a girl who wanted a dark smokey eye and winged liner! I got tons of hugs, thank you's and smiles which made me feel like a million bucks! I made photographer connections, friends and memories that will last me a lifetime. It was honestly the best experience I ever had volunteering (and I have quite a bit of volunteering experience under my belt).

There was one lady (the last to leave for the day), who came up to me and said I was beautiful, I had the perfect personality for being a makeup artist, thanked me for making her feel beautiful and told me that I made her Christmas. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't holding back tears as she told us what an amazing experience she had. Another lady had a smile on her face from the time she walked in to the time she walked out and she had my cheeks sore from smiling and laughing. She signed her portrait "I love this day" and I will never forget her. Everyone was so grateful for such a wonderful experience and I can't begin to tell you how honored I was to be there among such awesome people. Here we all are :)
And here's a shot of the portraits laid out on a table as we were cluing up for the day:
Big shout out and hugs go out to Stephanie, Shannon and Cory! Cory spot cleaned my makeup brushes after every person. In the afternoon it got so busy that I couldn't do it myself anymore. She also hung out with me all day, and cleaned up old tissues, sponges and mascara wands from my table too! Thanks for being my awesome assistant :). Shannon & Stephanie are sisters (to my surprise not twins haha) and are both super sweet ladies! Shannon did hair and Stephanie was one of the amazing photographers.

I also want to shout out to the photographers who were there yesterday - you guys did an amazing job! I don't think I have them all on my Facebook but most of us connected via social networking shortly after the event. If you are interested in checking out their pages here are some links:

Help-Portrait

I am volunteering for a great cause tomorrow and I wanted to share it with my lovely followers. Its called "Help-Portrait" and it is a global movement of photographers using their time, gear and expertise to give back to those in need. No, I am not a photographer but I am volunteering my makeup expertise to prep everybody before they get their picture taken! This is my first time doing something like this as a makeup artist and I'm really excited. A huge shout out goes to photographer Brian Carey who has set up the program here in St. John's, Newfoundland. This will be the first Help-Portrait here and I am really hoping it will continue for years to come! There is nothing more rewarding, both professionally and personally, to give to those in need - especially during the holiday season. My heart is all warm and fuzzy just thinking about tomorrow!

If I have time, I will blog from the event on my iPhone. If not, I will blog tomorrow night (or sometime this weekend) and let you know how it went. With lots of photographers around shooting pics I'm sure I will have a few pictures to share with you guys also :)!
